Hugh S. Cummins III
Vice Chair and Chief Operating Officer
Hugh S. "Beau" Cummins III is vice chair and chief operating officer for Truist Financial Corporation, a purpose-driven financial services organization committed to inspiring and building better lives and communities. In this role, he is responsible for operational services, enterprise transformation, enterprise performance acceleration, corporate strategy, corporate development and venture capital as well as enterprise payments, and governance and controls. He is also a member of Truist’s Operating Council.
He was named to his current position in November 2023, after serving as Vice Chair since 2021 with oversight of strategy, corporate and investment banking, corporate and commercial real estate, wealth management, wholesale payments and consumer finance. From 2019 to 2021, Cummins served as head of Truist’s corporate and institutional group.
Prior to 2019, Cummins served as co-chief operating officer and wholesale segment executive at a Truist predecessor, responsible for corporate and investment banking, commercial and business banking, treasury and payment solutions, and commercial real estate, as well as the enterprise efficiency office and procurement. From 2013 to 2017, Cummins served as commercial and business banking executive, and from 2008 to 2013, he was chairman, president, and chief executive officer of a predecessor of Truist Securities, the corporate and investment banking division of Truist.
Cummins currently serves on the board of directors of Truist Insurance Holdings, board of directors of Atrium Health Foundation, and the Owen board of visitors at Vanderbilt University. He previously served on the board of directors of Truist Securities, as chairman of the World Affairs Council of Atlanta, and was a two-term member of the Business Advisory Council at Miami University’s Farmer School of Business.
Cummins earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
