On & off the field: Truist to deepen relationship with Wake Forest University athletics
Truist is broadening its partnership with Wake Forest, unlocking new avenues for supporting student-athletes and the local community.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Truist, a longstanding partner of Wake Forest University, will become An Official Banking Partner of Wake Forest Athletics and Presenting Partner of Wake Forest Women’s Athletics.

The partnership broadens Truist’s commitment across Wake Forest Athletics while continuing to support community-focused initiatives. Rooted in Truist’s purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities, the renewal is the largest non-naming rights sponsorship agreement in the history of Wake Forest Athletics.

Highlights of the expansive partnership include:

  • Student-athlete education, leadership, and career support. Truist will equip all student-athletes and athletic department staff with financial literacy fundamentals through Truist Momentum, a program meant to inspire, educate, and provide participants tools to manage their money based on what matters most to them. Additionally, every WFU team captain will have learning and leadership opportunities with the Truist Leadership Institute, a one-of-a-kind learning experience that has empowered business executives, educators, and students to become better, more self-aware leaders and individuals for over 60 years. All student-athletes will have the opportunity for continued career exploration at Truist, with some having the chance to visit Truist’s Charlotte headquarters for an all-day experience that will include engaging with executives and learning about the day-to-day for different positions.
  • Truist becoming Presenting Partner of Wake Forest Women’s Athletics. Truist will support and amplify Wake Forest Women's Athletics by establishing a more robust presence across all women’s sports. This will include enhancing career and leadership opportunities for women student-athletes, supporting and increasing awareness of associated fundraising campaigns, and increasing its marketing presence on-site and online including highlighting the past, present, and future of Demon Deacons women’s sports through a weekly digital content series, “This Week in Wake Forest Women’s Athletics.”

The agreement follows incredible momentum from Wake Forest Athletics’ 50th Anniversary of Women's Athletics that launched almost two years ago and has continued to be a unifying initiative among supporters. Since that moment, over 1,500 donors committed over $17,700,000 toward women’s athletics initiatives and created over 25 new scholarship endowments in support of women student-athletes.

  • Focus on community through ongoing “Community Cares” initiatives. Truist will celebrate those making a difference in the Winston-Salem community, including individuals, nonprofits, and small businesses. The ‘Community Hero of the Game, presented by Truist,’ will include recipient recognition on-field/on-court, marketing assets, and social media support. Additionally, local small businesses will be spotlighted at select Wake Forest Athletics events. Truist’s support will also include highlighting individual student-athletes that support the Winston-Salem community as part of a social media content series “Community Service Outreach presented by Truist.”

“Truist is a proud longtime partner of Wake Forest Athletics, and we’re excited to expand this partnership to be focused on community and rooted in purpose,” said Cantey Alexander, Triad regional president for Truist. “We look forward to celebrating those making a difference in the Triad area and supporting the next generation of community leaders through WFU Athletics.”

“I am grateful for Truist’s longtime support of our university and its students,” said Wake Forest University President Susan R. Wente. “Truist is one of America’s leading financial institutions, and Wake Forest is one of America’s leading higher education institutions — and in our own ways, we are each committed to success and future growth for those we serve. I am excited about our continued partnership and a bright future of collaboration.”

Additional elements of the partnership include a “Mic’d Up” social media video series highlighting athletes, coaches and administrators, VIP Game Day giveaway experiences, and additional branding and game entitlements across Demon Deacon sports.

“The Truist - Wake Forest partnership is really about leveraging our strengths together to improve the lives of the members of our shared communities,” director of athletics John Currie said. “Truist’s extraordinary partnership investment helps ensure that we can achieve our Wake Athletics vision of being a Model Intercollegiate Athletics Program and prepare our student-athletes to live impactful lives in our local communities.”

The new long-term agreement will no longer include the naming sponsorship of Wake Forest’s football stadium. The new name for the home of the Deacs will be announced later this week.
