Joseph M. Thompson
Joseph M. "Joe" Thompson is chief wealth officer at Truist Financial Corporation. He oversees teams that deliver holistic wealth management solutions to affluent, high, and ultra-high net worth individuals, families, and business owners in the U.S. and abroad, as well as distinct solutions for individuals and businesses in the medical, legal, sports and entertainment industries. Truist Wealth also provides public, private, and nonprofit organizations with corporate trust, escrow, and institutional investment management services, in addition to asset management solutions delivered by Sterling Capital Management. He assumed this position on December 2019 upon the closing of the merger of equals between BB&T Corporation and SunTrust Banks Inc. and is a member of the company’s executive management team.
In August 2014, Thompson was named the head of Private Wealth Management at SunTrust Banks Inc. Prior to that, Thompson, who joined SunTrust Bank subsidiary SunTrust Robinson Humphrey in 1991, held numerous positions in the financial services group, including being named head of investment banking and later head of corporate banking. Before joining SunTrust, Thompson worked in the mergers and acquisitions department at Morgan Stanley & Co. Inc.
Thompson is a member of the board of trustees of the National YoungArts Foundation.
Thompson earned a bachelor's degree from Williams College and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
