Joseph M. Thompson

Joseph M. "Joe" Thompson is chief wealth officer at Truist Financial Corporation. He oversees Truist Wealth teams that deliver holistic wealth management solutions to affluent, high, and ultra-high net worth individuals, families, and business owners in the U.S. and abroad, as well as distinct solutions for individuals and businesses in the medical, legal, sports and entertainment industries. Truist Wealth also provides public, private, and nonprofit organizations with corporate trust, escrow, and institutional investment management services. In addition, Sterling Capital Management, a registered investment advisor and wholly owned subsidiary of Truist, provides investment management services to a diverse group of clients.

Thompson assumed this position in December 2019 and is a member of the Truist executive leadership team.

In 2014, Thompson was named head of Private Wealth Management for a Truist predecessor. Prior to that, Thompson, who joined a predecessor of Truist Securities in 1991, was head of Investment Banking and head of Corporate Banking. Before joining Truist, Thompson worked in the mergers and acquisitions department at Morgan Stanley & Co., Inc.

Thompson is a member of the board of trustees of the National YoungArts Foundation.

Thompson earned a bachelor's degree from Williams College and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
